priorities…

7 years… on July 1st dreamlife photography celebrated its 7 birthday… 7 has been a number of importance to me lately… i taught school 7 years before deciding to resign and follow my dream… i have been blessed in this journey and look forward to what is in store… Brelee was 3 years old and Bo was 6… Brelee never knew “teacher” Kim… she has only known the camera lady Kim… and over the past 7 years there have been times that Brelee and Bo have seen a not so nice mommy Kim because work has her stressed… i know a lot of you moms out there are totally with me on this… for the first few years of my business i spent a lot of time away shooting or editing in a little portable building set up by the fish house… i was blessed with a husband that agreed to move my little business to the house and now my kids are use to me sitting in front of a computer most of the day editing and ordering and they are use to riding the bus to their granny and papa’s (which they love) and staying there until dark sometimes while i am shooting in the prime light of the evening…

as of today, Brelee is now a smart, independent 10 year old… double digits… will be in her last year of elementary school this year… growing too fast and is as sassy as ever (but in a fun way and i hope that last)… Bo is a handsome, tender-hearted 13 year old… a TEENAGER… what?!?!… he will be in the 7th grade this year… the junior high years… the most important couple of years in a kid’s life… that is one reason when i graduated TECH i went into teaching in that area… felt that that was where i could do some good… hope i did… but now the two most important kids in my life need me… they need more mom time and a little less of stressed out, over worked, in front of the computer mom… so that being said i would like to announce some changes happening at dreamlife…

i am in no means hanging up the camera… not at all… but i am limiting my sessions as well as my shoot times… this past year has been amazing but can’t handle another one like it… i loved each of my 21 senior sessions but here it is the middle of July and i still have some seniors waiting on jump drives… i don’t like that… but everyone that knows me well knows that i have a problem saying no to people and want to try to help or accommodate any way i can to make it easy for them… i can’t do that anymore because i have to think about my kids and their school work, their hobbies, their interests… this is it… i only get one go at this and i don’t have much time left with them… we all know and have seen as we are getting older just how fast the time flies…

so here we go… this is how it is going to go around here now… i know that this may not work for some of my past customers and i truly hate that but i know that i have the absolute BEST clients in the world and y’all will understand and try to work with me… and if we can’t get our schedules worked out i will be happy to refer you to some awesome photographer friends…

beginning August 1, 2014 i will no longer shoot after 4:00 PM on school days… i will be happy to schedule any time between 8:30-3:00 but all sessions will have to be over by 4:00… i need to be here for Bo & Brelee when they get off the bus… homework (especially MATH) needs my attention… i have some precious babies and i want to keep them that way so mama needs to be here and not here just in body… i need to be fully present… i will try to block off a Saturday once a month to try to fit those that just can’t fit into those times…

this decision has not been easy… but i keep telling myself that we as a society take off work for doctor appointments, dentist appointments, hair appointments, etc… i hope that those that truly want me to capture their special moments understand and will be willing to work with me on this… i quit teaching because i was so stressed that i was not being any good for my family and i wanted to have more time with them… well, instead of fully quitting photography because of the same reason, i have more control with this career and can try to find a balance that works for me, my family, and my clients…

thank you all for your support over the past 7 years… this has been such a learning experience… and i have met and made friends with people that my path would have never crossed… that makes me happy and i am so thankful for this… i am excited about the changes and i promise i will continue to grow and learn in my knowledge of photography to always bring you the absolute best i can give… i want everyone that gets in front of my camera to be 100% happy with me and their experience… thank you for tagging along with me over the past 7 years… look forward to many more…

please keep up with availability as well as any last minute mini session days on my facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/dreamlife-photography/115151348497538?ref=bookmarks
